lenkimo When visiting down.exmaple.com, it will read index.php from public_html and visit the Admin directory.
I got to this, and it doesn't make sense unless you have some internal redirects or rewrites. "it will read the index.php from public_html and visit the Admin directory" ... Two separate directories. What folder does down.example.com
point to?
lenkimo I would like to be able to visit my down.example.com and have the Admin folder open, and be able to manage the Public folder. This way, when I place a file in the Public folder and copy the download link, other users will be able to download it without having to log in.
As far as I can see in your example, both Public
and Admin
dirs are inside the Private
dir. So basically, you could install Files Gallery in public_html/files/index.php
and then points the ROOT
option to ../../Private
. The gallery would then display two folders Public
and Admin
in the menu.
lenkimo This way, when I place a file in the Public folder and copy the download link, other users will be able to download it without having to log in.
When you say "log in" I don't know what you are talking about. Also, as long as your Public
dir is outside the public_html
dir (which it is according to your post), then anything inside Public
is not accessible from the web ... This is only made possible from Files Gallery by "proxying" the file index.php?files=some/image.jpg
.
lenkimo I tried to create __config.php to put in the public_html directory based on a previous post, but it seems that this just makes down.example.com point directly to /private/Public and ignores /private/Admin.
Not sure what you have done here. The root _files/config/config.php
, if you point it to the Private
dir, it will show Public
and Admin
... anything inside the Private
dir.
lenkimo I would like to know how to properly handle Admin vs Public and how they should be configured for folder permissions for security reasons.
You haven't explained to me what differences you need, and who can do what and where. As of the above, it's not even clear if you have Files Gallery pointing to the right folder.
If you need different access, you may need to setup multiple Files Gallery folders public_html/files-public
public_html/files-admin
public_html/files-all
etc, and point each of them to the folder level you want to access from the url. Then you can set permissions and login (if required) to each of them separately.
