Multiple file download opens as an empty ZIP in Windows

Great app!
But when selecting multiple files in any subfolder for download the received ZIP file opens up as "empty" in default Windows (10) File Explorer view! When opening the ZIP archive in another application (7-Zip for example) it first contains a single "_" folder with all files inside.

Multiple file downloads from the main root folder work as expected.

Seems to be a problem with PHP's ZipArchive (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4620205/php-ziparchive-corrupt-in-windows)

joose Do you have any download-specific config options assigned? By default, all multi-file downloads are downloaded and zipped directly in browser. So it would definitely not be related to PHP ZipArchive, unless you have assigned server-based zip.

Because by default, all multi-file downloads are downloaded and zipped directly in browser, and it would there be unrelated to PHP ZipArchive. Perhaps you can tell me if you have the same problems in our demo? And if so, give an exact minimal example of what you are downloading? It could be a browser/OS related issue.

joose This was resolved in latest release Files Gallery 0.9.8. It had to do with file paths starting with /forwardslash, which worked on Mac/Linux but not in Windows default unzip mechanism.

Karl It seems to be OS-related (Windows 10, tried on two machines, currently can't test on W11) when opening the zip. I tried different browsers (Edge, Firefox and Chrome) on your demo site, downloading two balloon JPGs and got the same results.

Only when downloading (two) files from my site root folder does it work, ZIP opens as expected.

Some character(s) that Windows doesn't seem to like get encoded at the beginning of the file name/path. When opening with 7-Zip (a more capable program than Windows default), the archive first shows a "_" dir. When opening that, the file path on the top address bar doesn't contain that. Two screenshots here + a sample zip downloaded with iOS Safari. The same results opening in Windows, so it doesn't seem to be browser-specific.

Found a way to check ZIP file contents using tar in windows command line. The problematic ZIP seems to contain filenames beginning with "/" vs. the ZIP without problems (downloaded from the root folder).

joose I can see that there are some unexpected results (characters) when I tested from a remote browser service using Windows 10 and Internet Explorer. Unpacked dir was named _ and there seemed to be double \slashes in the subpath. However, the images did unpack and display correctly, including subfolders downloaded.

I will try and test from Windows 11 when I can find access. The small issue is surely related to relative folder paths, \backslash vs /forward slash, and how the internal paths are created in the zip from browser/javascript. It could be there are some adjustments in javascript to improve compatibility, but I can't currently see that anything is not working.

Tested on Windows 11 on browserstack.com, and it reported zip file was invalid when attempting to extract.
