Will consider it, although it's a clumsy solution in regards to dynamic sorting and filtering. If you have seen a gallery layout that combines both pagination and live sort and filter, please let me know.

Karl After the data is paginated, if it is reordered, you can completely refresh the page and reload. Because once the user sets the sort, it rarely resorts.

The challenge here, is that I really don't know how much faster it will be. Files Gallery still needs to load the data for all files in the folder, even if it distributes them to pages. It's not an option to only load data for one "page" at a time, because that is incompatible with cache, and it would definitely not work with sort and filter. In conclusion:

It should be faster to scroll (especially slow devices), if you limit the layout to for example 100 items per page.
I'm not sure it will be faster when initially loading the page, because all items need to load and get sorted first. Maybe, if it doesn't need to render a layout with all items.

As an indexer's-gallery fan I understand the 2 points of view. A possible solutions would be:

Option 1. Let the users choose between "infinity scroll" or "pagination" (with their pros and cons)

Option 2. Offer 2 files.gallery to download (the standard one, and/or the pagination version)

I had galleries with millions pictures and pagination solved the load problem on the servers. So, in this situation the feature choice-sort-frontend is not relevant for admins, simply there is only 1 sort by default for everyone and that's all.

In case of @Karl add this feature in the gallery...

If pagination option is selected by customer, then:

1- Specify number of images per page = XXX
2- Specify sort list by default = date-desc (choice between: "name-asc,name-desc,date-asc or date-desc")
3- And finally 'Sort-Options' have to be hidden/disabled from files-gallery-header-Frontend, since it is not necessary anymore for the visitor.
